Armada Guard Video Audition Information

 

Please submit one video showcasing all of the skills listed for the class you are auditioning for. Please make sure you specify what class audition requirements you are using.   Videos should be 3–5 minutes long and demonstrate each skill listed and keep all sections together. For example: all dance clips are back to back in the video.  Make sure your video is completed and submitted by midnight October 31, 2025.  Please post the video to a share drive or upload to YouTube, keeping the video private, then send us the access to view at armadacorps@gmail.com 

Please be sure to register for the auditions even if you are submitting a video audition. 

If you are new to color guard, just submit what you can already do so we can get an idea of the foundation you have.

 

Regional A Class Audition Video Requirements

Goal: Demonstrate fundamental control, timing, and body awareness through clear, consistent technique and confident performance. Make sure to have performance posture and facials. 

Reminder: try your best on all the skills listed, this audition is to assess where you are at, if you are trying something you have never done before, it is ok to not be perfect!

 Dance

Perform each exercise in time with a metronome or vocal counting

  • 32 counts of dance choreography that includes:
  • Chaine turns 
  • Jumps/leaps/turns
  • Any other dance or gymnastic tricks 

 Flag

Each skill should be performed with vocal counts and demonstrate control, proper hand placement, and consistent timing.

    • 16 counts of drop spins with a drop stop
    • 16 counts of pull hits
    • Standard J/Money Hand toss (catch silk down)
    • Standard right-hand single toss
      (Right hand under, left hand over — catch straight up and down)
    • Standard 45° single toss
      (Starting at the hip, releasing from the “unicorn” checkpoint, catch silk up)
  • Any other flag tricks (catching back handed, turning under a toss, etc)

 Rifle (Optional)

If you choose to include rifle, please demonstrate with vocal counts:

  • 16 counts of drop spins (right and left) with a clean stop
  • Single tosses right and left — catching flat
  • Double tosses right and left — catching flat
  • Horizontal or parallel toss of your choice
  • Right and left flourishes
  • Any other rifle tricks

Saber (Optional)

If included, perform each skill with focus on blade control and clean catches and continue to use vocal counts: 

  • 16 counts of drop spins with stop at flat (right and left)
  • Single toss — from left flat
  • Blade single toss — right hand
  • Horizontal or parallel toss of you choice
  • Right and left flourishes
  • Any other saber tricks

 

 

A Class Audition Video Requirements

Goal: Demonstrate intermediate control, flexibility, and expressive quality through increased skill difficulty, expanded range of motion, and performance integration. Continue to demonstrate a high quality performance with posture and facial expressions.

Dance

Perform each exercise in time with a metronome or music (choose a comfortable tempo).

  • 32 counts of Choreography that includes the following:
    • Chaine turns
    • Inversions of your choice
      (Examples: cartwheels, handstands, illusions, backbends, somersaults, back walkovers, etc.)
    • Advanced leaps (calypso, jeté, split leaps, monkey jumps, etc.)
    • Floor rolls or grounded transitions from standing to sitting showing smooth weight transfer
    • Any other dance or gymnastic tricks

Flag

Perform all flag exercises with vocal counts to show rhythm accuracy and control.

    • 16 counts of drop spins with a drop stop
  • Standard J/Money Hand toss (catch silk down)
  • Standard right-hand double toss
    (Right hand under, left hand over — catch straight up and down.)(silk down)
  • Standard 45° single toss
    (Starting at the hip, releasing from the “unicorn” checkpoint)
  • Standard 45° single-and-a-half toss
  • Backhand catches (left and right hand) — demonstrate control and alignment
  • Any other flag tricks

Rifle

Perform all rifle exercises with vocal counts to demonstrate timing and consistency.

    • 16 counts of drop spins (right and left) with a clean stop
    • 16 counts of double time spins
    • Left Tosses – triple or higher (show us what you can already do)t
    • Backhand catches — right and left hand
    • 45° toss from shoulder and hip
  • Any other tricks (catching back handed, turning under a toss, etc)

Saber (Optional)

If included, perform each skill with focus on blade control and clean catches and continue to use vocal counts: 

    • 16 counts of drop spins (right and left) with a clean stop
    • 16 counts of double time spins
    • Blade Tosses – (show us what you can do)
    • Left Tosses – triple or higher (show us what you can already do)t
    • Backhand catches — right and left hand
    • 45° toss from shoulder and hip
  • Any other tricks (catching back handed, turning under a toss, etc)

Open Class Audition Video Requirements

Goal: Demonstrate advanced control, precision, musicality, and expressive performance while integrating complex equipment work and body movement.

Reminder: try your best on all the skills listed, this audition is to assess where you are at, if you are trying something you have never done before, it is ok to not be perfect!

Dance

Perform each exercise in time with a metronome or music (choose a comfortable tempo).

  • 1 Minute dance solo.  Show us the skills in your repertoire.  Be sure to include inversions, tumbling skills, floor or ground work, leaps and turns. Etc.

Flag, Rifle and Saber

Perform 30 seconds to 1  minute of choreography on all 3 pieces of equipment (flag, rifle and sabre).   This is your chance to show off!  Include trick tosses, under flag body work, etc.  This work should showcase your musicality, technique and include both body and equipment skills. Sabre is required for open class auditions.
